Afterword and an invitation to the faith.

I pray that this has been beneficial for you. My intent in introducing the Bible is not merely educational, but also to bring people to Christ. Christianity is a life-changing belief.

If you feel convicted, I invite you to further reading. The most important thing that can be done is to read more of the Bible itself. The translation used for this website is the World English Bible (WEB) for copyright purposes, but I would suggest the English Standard Version (ESV) for daily reading. Other good translations include the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and the New International Version (NIV). The New Living Translation (NLT) is an easy-to-read translation, if you'd prefer something that can be digested more easily.

All of these can be found in most local bookstores, or can be found at BibleGateway.com. Click the droplist to select the translation to use. BibleGateway also has reading plans to help you get started on a more complete reading of scripture.

Additionally, if you have an iPhone/iPad, an Android device, or a Windows Phone device, you can download YouVersion, which also contains reading plans.

Both BibleGateway and YouVersion are free.

There are also many resources that are available to you from pastors and teachers. These are not the Word of God, but they are beneficial.

  • Pastor James White gave a presentation called Why Am I a Christian that would be helpful for new believers and those interested in learning more about the faith.
  • Pastor John Piper has provided A Baptist Catechism, which is also a helpful way to learn about the faith. A "catechism" is a question-and-answer style teaching tool.
  • Ligonier Ministries produces a podcast called "Renewing Your Mind". This is an ongoing teaching series that will greatly help you for years to come.
  • Pastor Voddie Bauchum publishes his sermons online on his website. Pastor Voddie is an excellent preacher.

Should you decide to come to Christ, it is important to be a part of a local church. The author of Hebrews said in Hebrews 10:24-25 "Let's consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." We cannot do this without regular contact with other Christians!

Finding a church and becoming part of the congregation can be intimidating for many people, but it is important. A good church will understand that you are not perfect and will understand if you do not yet know much about Christianity. And remember that the people already in the church are also not perfect, either, and nobody has finished learning new things about God.

Pastor John MacArthur has an article entitled "What should I look for when choosing a new church home?" that will help you to know what to look for in a church.
